Job Description

Lead Behavioral Scientist / Head of Research & Science

Location: Hanoi / Remote-friendly
Type: Full-time
Company: TeenCare

About TeenCare

TeenCare is building an intelligence system for parenting and adolescent development.

We combine human mentoring, behavioral science, longitudinal data, and AI to help parents better understand their children and help teens develop the capabilities that matter for adulthood: self-regulation, motivation, responsibility, resilience, communication, and healthy decision-making.

We are looking for someone to build the scientific foundation beneath everything we do.

This is not primarily a curriculum role.

It is not an academic coordination role.

It is not a role for someone who wants to review product decisions from the sidelines.

You will own the behavioral and research architecture behind TeenCare’s assessments, interventions, AI systems, mentor methodology, parent guidance, and outcome measurement.

The Role

As Lead Behavioral Scientist / Head of Research & Science, you will answer questions such as:

  • What should we actually measure about a teen?
  • Which constructs are scientifically meaningful versus fashionable?
  • How do self-regulation, conscientiousness, motivation, family environment, stress, phone use, and parent behavior interact?
  • How should we distinguish temporary state from stable trait?
  • What evidence should an AI system use before making a recommendation?
  • Which interventions work, for whom, under what conditions?
  • How do we know whether a teen has actually improved?
  • How can TeenCare turn longitudinal behavioral data into better interventions and new scientific knowledge?

Your job is to turn the best available science into a working behavioral system.

What You Will Own

1. TeenCare’s Behavioral Model

Develop and continuously refine TeenCare’s core model of adolescent development.

Define:

  • key developmental dimensions and constructs
  • behavioral drivers and observable signals
  • relationships between teen, parent, family, and environmental factors
  • hypotheses about causality and change
  • intervention pathways
  • outcome definitions

The model should be rigorous enough for researchers and usable enough for product and engineering teams.

2. Assessments & Psychometrics

Design and improve TeenCare’s assessment system.

You may work on:

  • construct selection
  • questionnaire and item design
  • scoring models
  • reliability and validity
  • age appropriateness
  • longitudinal measurement
  • bias and measurement error
  • behavioral and observational signals beyond self-report

You should know when an assessment is meaningful — and when it merely looks scientific.

3. Intervention Science

Build the evidence base behind what TeenCare recommends to teens, parents, mentors, and AI systems.

For each meaningful intervention, help us understand:

  • mechanism
  • target population
  • expected effect
  • supporting evidence
  • contraindications or limitations
  • confidence level
  • how outcomes should be measured

Where evidence is weak, you should identify the uncertainty rather than disguise it.

4. AI & Scientific Grounding

Work closely with AI and engineering teams to make TeenCare’s intelligence systems behaviorally rigorous.

Help define:

  • behavioral state representations
  • reasoning frameworks
  • evidence hierarchies
  • intervention-selection logic
  • confidence and uncertainty
  • longitudinal state tracking
  • feedback loops
  • evaluation methods

We do not want AI that simply produces plausible parenting advice.

We want systems that form hypotheses, update them with evidence, select appropriate interventions, and learn from outcomes.

5. Outcome Measurement

Define what success actually means.

Build measurement systems across:

  • baseline
  • weekly or ongoing signals
  • intervention-level outcomes
  • 30 / 90-day changes
  • longer-term development

Separate satisfaction from real behavioral change.

Help TeenCare answer the harder question:

Did the intervention make a meaningful difference?

6. Research

Turn TeenCare into a strong applied research environment.

You will help develop:

  • research questions
  • study designs
  • experiments
  • longitudinal analyses
  • observational research
